Marriage

Marriage

"Marriage is a gift of God our creator." So says our Anglican Prayer Book. It is in this sense something that has been part of human life and experience right from our creation; that two people should come together and form a sacred bond sharing life together, mutually supporting one another, and creating a safe family for the birth and nurture of children.

In our modern world marriage has taken on a legal character as well. The origins of this are to do with who inherits assets and property, and who has rights to claim such things. In Australia Marriage is a legal covenant entered into by two people, and there are legal documents required to enter into marriage and prove that it has taken place.

The Church's approach to marriage, as expressed in the Prayer Book, is to see it first and foremost as a relationship between a man and a woman who join together in companionship for life. Getting married in Church is asking God's blessing on this union. If you would like to be married in a Church in this Parish please contact the Rector.
